With the help of special guest, Stony Brook University Hospital resident pediatrician Sean O'Connor, kindergarten students at Tackan Elementary got some great safety tips on Friday!
Mr. O'Connor spoke to the children about the proper ways to keep safe while riding a bicycle by always wearing a helmet. He had students drop two eggs: one with a "helmet" and one without. Guess which one cracked? :)
He also discussed seat belt safety in cars.
The students then proceeded to their stations where they acted like doctors, diagnosed and provided cures for their teddy bears!

Fourth graders at Tackan Elementary were involved Monday in hands-on workshops exploring the culture of the Eastern Woodlands Indians who inhabited New York State.
During the Journeys Into American Indian Territory program, students had the opportunity to see firsthand how the native peoples used their natural resources to meet their needs and wants. Students participated in traditional games and listened to stories to learn more about the history of these indigenous tribes.
Students also learned about their system of government and had the opportunity to make a clay pot.
