UPDATE ON BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION

On Monday, June 8, 2020 Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order extending the deadline for school districts to receive absentee ballots for the June 9, 2020 annual budget vote and election. To be counted, absentee ballots must be hand delivered on June 9, 2020 or received by mail on June 16, 2020. There will be a drop box for ballots located at the district central office at 26 New York Ave., Smithtown, between the hours of 9:00am-5:00pm by the visitor’s entrance.

The date of the budget vote and election is still 5:00pm on June 9, 2020. The canvass of the ballots will now be conducted on June 16, 2020 after 5:00pm.

Voting will be by Absentee Ballot only



On May 1, 2020 Governor Cuomo issued Executive Order 202.26 which addressed the manner in which  School District Budget Votes and Elections will be conducted. Click here to read Executive Order 202.26

Voting: All qualified voters will be provided an absentee ballot by mail.  All absentee ballots must be returned to the Office of the District Clerk in the postage paid return envelope included with the ballot packet no later than 5:00pm on June 9, 2020.

Registration of Voters: There will be no in person registration of voters. Nominating Petitions:
Candidates for the Board of Education must submit their nominating petition  to the Office of the District Clerk by 5:00pm on Monday, May 11, 2020. No minimum number of signatures are required to be obtained under the Executive Order.  The names of the candidates will appear on the ballot in alphabetical order according to surname.

El 1 de mayo de 2020, el Gobernador Cuomo emitió la Orden Ejecutiva 202.26 que abordó la manera en que se llevarán a cabo las Elecciones y los Votos del Presupuesto del Distrito Escolar. Haga clic aquí para leer la Orden ejecutiva 202.26

Votación: Todos los votantes calificados recibirán una boleta en ausencia por correo. Todas las papeletas en ausencia deben devolverse a la Oficina del Secretario del Distrito en el sobre de franqueo pagado incluido con el paquete de papeletas a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m. del 9 de junio de 2020.

Peticiones de nominación: los candidatos a la Junta de Educación deben presentar su petición de nominación a la Oficina del Secretario del Distrito antes de las 5:00 pm del lunes 11 de mayo de 2020. Sin mínimo se requiere obtener una cantidad de firmas bajo la Orden Ejecutiva. Los nombres de los candidatos aparecerán en la boleta en orden alfabético según el apellido.
